24 days since my last post and there has not been much in the way of biking. Oh sure, one or two rides a week, but that is not really riding. Today was the first day I felt like a biker in a long time.
After spending more than a year looking for a cabin in the Cable, WI area, we had all but given up for the year. I was about to get the camper out of storage and ready for the season. The funny part was that we had not taken the time to book more than one camping trip for the summer. We usually take the camper to a few race venues over the summer, but the family is not as interested in those trips as me. I decided (in typical Matt Midlife Crisis style) to buy a Volkswagon Vanagon Westfalia camper for races. It would get better gas mileage and be sort of fun for a summer vehicle. I will post pictures of this beauty at a later date.
It is at these times that life deals you a card, sometimes good and sometimes bad. While searching for parts to customize my Westy, I decided to do a cabin search one last time. Jackpot! A new listing in the area we wanted. Three days later, we had an accepted offer.
Got a cabin on a lake, need a boat right? Found one on Ebay and drove to Janesville, WI to test drive and take it home in strong storms that flooded 29 counties in Wisconsin. White knuckled the drive home in rains and hail that eventually flooded and drained Lake Delton. On the way home from Janesville my cell phone rings. "Are you the guy with the Camper for sale?" Yes I Am. In two weeks we made massive life changes. Things happened fast. The past two weekends we have spent our time, and all our money, sourcing items to make the cabin a bit more like us.
Cutting brush, moving furniture and mowing lawns means not much bike riding. But like I said, today was the first day in a long time that I felt right. After a second weekend working and relaxing at the cabin. I met SuperCrash in Seeley for the Riverbrook weekly ride. 50 miles later and a nice 30mph finish was just what I needed.
Once I get settled in, I think that I will actually ride more because Cable is a mountain biking and cycling mecca. It should be interesting, but I think I will miss a few races in an effort to spend family time within 10 miles from the Namekagon/Rock Lake Trail Heads. I logged 115 miles this week in three days. Nothing to brag about, but it is twice the mileage of any of the previous four weeks. Pretty Pathetic. I have to start training hard if I am going to do the 24-9 and the Cheq40.
