Two Week Blog

Life is crazy! What happens happens right?

We spent a weekend in Hutchinson Minnesota to visit the in-laws and contracted our children's colds. On the way home it was warm, with talk of snow. Bobby T was easily convinced to go for a ride. It was nice, I even over dressed again, but I don't like being cold. That night we got seven inches of snow and two days later it was all gone. Perhaps the ride allowed the cold to set in deep, because I would not ride again for 6 days. That can often feel like an eternity. My legs began to ache after about 4 days. I thought it was because of the cold, but upon further review, I think it was just lack of use.

Saturday, April 5th Bob and I made it out again, this time I felt better. Yesterday, we took Ryan out for another 27 mile spin before the rain came. Within that week of time, I did not get to my Singlespeed project which has some time before the snow melts in the woods so I can clear the trails and ride. Today, we woke up to snow and man did it snow. Heavy wet snow that covered everything quickly.

It would seem like a lackluster week, but actually a lot happened. My wife and I went to see the Wild vs. the Calgary Flames and the Wild locked up the division title. Stanley Cup Playoffs will start on Wednesday when the Wild host the Colorado Avalanche. Yeah, I'll be there!
Bob and I got around to finishing his school bus yellow Litespeed in the previous post. The long awaited brake adapters came in sans hardware, so a quick trip to the store and the first ride was taken down the driveway. You should do well in the WORS circuit this summer Bob, you hear that?

Today was terrible. Starting with the snow that made my commute to Eau Claire for a truck service and to pick up two suits. After dropping my ride off at the dealership, I went to pick up my suits. They needed more work, so now I have to go there tomorrow when the tailor is there.

Back to the dealership to wait some more. "It will be a while longer", so I went to The Olive Garden for some lunch. I like there food and it is not that expensive when you consider the free breadsticks and salad. Back at the dealership, "It's almost done". Half an hour later I am finally on the way home. Ten minutes north and the Transmission starts slipping. I actually could not maintain a constant speed on the highway! "Get it back here if you can or we will call a tow truck". So I drive it back with no warning lights on at all. They top off the fluids, find a leak and fix it. The tech takes it for a test drive and upon return announces that I need a new Transmission. Of course the dealership will pay for it because I only brought my truck in for a routine checkup that included a transmission flush. Big Ooops. Big waste of time. So now I think I will be in Eau Claire three times this week. And, with the Stanley Cup Playoff dates announced, there are two games I can attend before I hop a plane to visit the Scots and Brits.

This is not exactly the EASY week I had planned before I travel to England for work. You know...that pesky day job that gets in the way of my cycling. Where is the Karma in all of this? I'll tell you. The truck warranty expired two months ago! If that isn't enough, did I mention The WILD are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

As the cold and congestion exists my system, biking is merely a distant hope. There are too many things to do before my five day stint in Birmingham at a trade show. Two weeks off during spring training is not going to be good for the legs. Life is good though, things can always be worse.
